The Bifocals of Belief

Do you remember being in school when the teacher caught someone daydreaming? I can hear some of you saying, “Yeah, because it was ME!” A thought caught your attention like a tour guide inviting you on an adventure. Monotone sounds of the classroom slowly slipped away to a dull mummer as your thoughts escorted you through a world just beyond your reach. Like Alice in Wonderland you stepped from this world into a world where impossible became possible and reality bowed to imagination.

“ARE YOU DAYDREAMING AGAIN?! PAY ATTENTION!” shouted the teacher. And therein lies the problem; the Way of Imagination is ripped from our grasp as we are forced to sit in a sterile environment. Imagination was not allowed in the class nor is it allowed to be carried into adulthood. Imagination is permissible, and even necessary, for fighting childhood dragons and villains but is not welcome beyond the boundaries of our childhood home. Or is it?

Imagination, like Creativity, is not something we “Have” it’s something we “Do.” Imagination is the “Interpreter” that stands between our world and the one we see in the distance. Have you ever noticed that Imagination and Revelation occupy the same geographical location, the same real estate and same environment, a place called, “Nation.” One is designed to “Reveal” what has been hidden and the other is designed to “Reflect” what has been hidden while both require sight beyond the physical.

The next time you wait with expectation for the King to arrive and speak, I want to encourage you to replace the lenses that have always been there. The bifocals of belief found in Imagination and Revelation.
