In Here

I’m convinced that the answer is never “out there” somewhere. The answer is always inside, sometimes deeper than we think or are willing to go. Many people stop short of finding their answer not realizing that the answer they’re looking for was inches from their fingertips. “I didn’t have enough money,” “I didn’t have the right staff,” “The economy was bad,” “My boss was terrible,” or “I just lost everything I own.” I know what it’s like to look for the answer “out there.” Striving to find the answer but always falling short. “Why continue?” we say. “What a cruel joke, why would God do something like that?” It depends on our perspective. If we believe the answer is “out there” we set ourselves up to continually run in a hamster wheel pattern that will always be perpetual but never really go anywhere simply because the answer doesn’t exist “out there.” The answer isn’t “out there,” the answer is “in here” (*point to your heart) and it starts with perspective.

It starts with recognizing that we are here for a purpose, that our lives really do matter and that God believes more in us than we believe in ourselves. Life is not what happens to us, life is what happens for us and God is the coach who not only believes the best in us, He “Sees” the best in us. Like a coach He refuses to give up on us and will not stop until, like the athlete, we “choose” to go deeper and discover the answer we are looking for. “But why can’t God just show me?” expecting the door of our problem to just swing open like a scene out of our favorite movie. But…what if He is “just showing you,” only not in the way you expect, but in the way you need. The answer is never about resources; the answer is never “out there.” It’s never about having more money, or a better boss, the perfect spouse or better place to live. The answer is always about being resourceful and being resourceful demands that we go deeper into ourselves. If we are creative enough can we find the answer, yes or no? If we are determined enough can we find the answer, yes or no? If we take the time to know our true value as an individual will we find the answer, yes or no?

When the challenges come, when it feels like darkness has covered our lives, our first reaction is to find an answer, “out there.” When you catch your breath I want to encourage you to sit down, not run out. Sit down and allow the coach of your life to push you to find your answer “in here” (*pointing to your heart).
